Calisthenics
Calisthenics is a growing phenomenon that actually has a lot in common with gymnastics. It is known as the 'street workout' because most exercises can be done anywhere, without any equipment. The advanced exercises do involve some simple equipment, such as the pull-up bars you can find at your local park. Its cost efficiency is also one of the factors contributing to its popularity. This practice helps greatly with improving functional strength as it mimics the natural movement of the body (jumping, pushing, squatting, and pulling). Additionally, it is a great way to further improve flexibility as most of the actions require full body movement and involve large muscle groups. It is for that same reason that calisthenics works primarily to tone the body and create lean muscles.
