Calisthenics

Calisthenics is a growing phenomenon that actually has a lot in common with gymnastics. It is known as the 'street workout' because most exercises can be done anywhere, without any equipment. The advanced exercises do involve some simple equipment, such as the pull-up bars you can find at your local park. Its cost efficiency is also one of the factors contributing to its popularity.  This practice helps greatly with improving functional strength as it mimics the natural movement of the body (jumping, pushing, squatting, and pulling). Additionally, it is a great way to further improve flexibility as most of the actions require full body movement and involve large muscle groups. It is for that same reason that calisthenics works primarily to tone the body and create lean muscles.  Though the term may sound fancy, I can almost guarantee calisthenic workout includes movements you are quite familiar with. It can begin with a simple press-up or push-up, using your own body to ...

Does Pre-Workout Break a Fast?

I wanted to share a bit of an opinion-based post here as I have continuously heard some buzz around this topic lately. For those of you who participate in intermittent fasting, you will understand that some individuals can be very adamant about creating what they believe to be 'the' set of rules... I find this quite annoying. I feel a lot of individuals forget that we are all doing these practices for the good of ourselves, not to fit in with some agenda.  In my opinion, I do not believe that consuming pre-workout is grounds to claim someone is breaking their fast. However, I am someone who does my own kind of fasting. (I continue to drink water no matter what). After some trial and error, I found that not taking water during intermittent fasting leaves me with a terrible headache, and rather than suffer through that pain, I choose to take the path that is best suited for me.  I would like to note, however, that I only use powder pre-workout and mix it into water. So, in...

A Pioneer in Nutrition

Though, indeed, there are still plenty of areas for further development in nutrition, it is important to note the individual's findings and discoveries it took to get us where we are today. I would like to use my voice on this blog to recognize one of these individuals, in particular, Weston A. Price.      Weston was a twentieth-century nutritionist who led us to understand how the food we eat affects our health. Price grew up as a farmer in the late 1800s and first began his career as a dentist. As his career developed he spent time documenting the foods of indigenous people and its effects on their mental, dental, and otherwise physical health.      Based on the knowledge he had from doctors before him, he came to better understand the benefits and proper usage of important vitamins such as A, B, C, and D among others.      Eventually, Price wrote a novel on his findings titled "Nutrition and Physical Degeneration". His writings depicted th...

A Word With Herba Life!

For those of you who may not know, Herbalife is a wellness brand that focuses on selling supplements for many different areas. There are supplements for bloating, weight loss, fatigue, and more. As someone interested in the brand, I took it upon myself to reach out to one of the brand's ambassadors over email and I am here to share the conversation with you!     * This ambassador opted to keep her name anonymous for privacy reasons.  My first and foremost question to the ambassador was whether or not she takes these supplements herself. She responded by saying:       "I have not tried every single supplement Herbalife comes out with. But, the ones I have tried (Formula 1 Healthy Meal Nutritional Shake Mix and Liftoff) have worked well for me!"    I was curious to see how she felt about the brand often being deemed as a pyramid scheme. In full transparency, I always had a feeling it might be...so I asked.  Her response to this question wa...

Make Vegan Fluffy Pancakes!

I don't know about you but pancakes have always been one of my favorite breakfast food items. So, let's make vegan pancakes together! And, this is a beginner's recipe, it only takes 20 minutes and makes 8 pancakes! We are going to start off simple!  Let's get into it... You will need these ingredients:  -  Oat flour (1 & 1/2 cup) - Baking powder (1 tablespoon)  - Sugar (organic) (2 teaspoons) - Non-dairy milk (1 cup)      *soy milk is my favorite - Vanilla (2 teaspoons) - Oil (1 tablespoon) * If you would like, add in your favorite fruits like blueberries or bananas!  Time to put it all together!  1. Stir the oat flour, baking powder, and sugar together in a large bowl. (Avoid the electronic mixer, a spoon should do just fine!) 2. Once those three ingredients are stirred to your satisfaction, add the non-dairy milk, oil, and vanilla.  3. Stir until both wet and dry ingredients are blended with each other. (around 4 minutes) 4. Heat...

What is the 75 Hard Challenge?

If you have found yourself here, I am sure you know, that the 75 Hard Challenge has been buzzing around the internet for some time now. Every other post I see shows someone documenting what day they're on, what they're eating that day, and how their workout set matches their yoga mat at the gym. However, its title offers no insight into what the challenge really entails. At first glance, you'll know... - It is 75 days long - It is hard  But let's be honest, we can't change the name to this challenge, it has quite the ring to it.  I digress... let's talk about what this challenge is about because it can seem very intimidating and I feel it is MOST important to get the real information before committing!  The 75 Hard Challenge is a mental and physical journey with 6 rules. - Drink a gallon of water a day - Stick to a diet of your choice  - No cheat meals, no alcohol - Read 10 pages of a self-help book every day  - Exercise twice a day (one indoor and one out...
